Community Outcomes Overview
What is an Outcome?
Community outcomes are the big things that the community wants e.g. a safer community, lots of jobs, good educational opportunities, a clean green environment, healthy people. These are bigger than any one organisation can deliver. This is why Councils have to work with the community to make these outcomes happen.
How did the outcomes get decided?
Between October 2003 and March 2004, the people of Tauranga were invited to contribute to the development of outcomes.
Over 6,000 people participated in this process by talking to us and writing to us about what they would like to see for the future of Tauranga.
This was done by going out to places where people gathered and asking them what they thought would be important for the future of their city. Working teams were set up to draft some ideas about actions, these were further developed, prioritised and confirmed by ‘outcome working teams’ and then developed into a document called ‘Tauranga Tomorrow’.
The list of actions for each of the outcomes in Tauranga Tomorrow were then divided up among the various agencies who have responsibility for them and they have set about working towards achievement of them.
